MISSION
Our mission as the Highland Eco-Team is to take action in our school and community with the goal of achieving environmental sustainability and connecting with other motivated groups to create positive change.
WHAT WE'RE ABOUT
About two years ago several passionate students noticed extreme littering and carelessness around the school. Not only were the garbage cans overflowing, but they were filled with compostable and recyclable items. We began to take action. Now there is positive change happening constantly. Since the foundation of Eco-Team, we’ve been striving towards creating a greener school and have taken numerous initiatives in order to reach our goals. Most notably we’ve expanded our recycling program to include cardboard as well as our new composting program. By recycling, reducing, and reusing as much as possible we are minimizing Highland’s environmental footprint. In addition to our waste management improvements, Eco-Team has also organized two Earth Days, several garbage pickups, and is a voting member of the Green Team of Comox Town Council, helping to make important environmental decisions within our community as well as being a representative for our generation. The Team is also working with the Regional District in order to create a more sustainable environment in hopes of creating a better future for everyone.
