I joined EcoTeam when I was in grade 11, the same year my friend 'founded' it. I really wanted to do something to help and at that time I wasn't doing any volunteering. I had also never done any environmental work so I thought it would be interesting.
I've really enjoyed my time on the Eco-Team. I've learned a lot about composting and recycling that I never knew. Like that plastic zip-lock bags are recyclable. It’s been very educational.
While I’ve been involved, I have learned to be very protective of our Earth and now when I go for walks I bring a bag and pick up the garbage and recyclables I find. I think a lot of people would learn a lot by joining this group and taking action. I really encourage people to come join us! I promise you’ll love it, it’s very rewarding work.
I will miss being a part of this group but I will try to make a change while I’m in university.  Thank you everyone for all the fun! I’ll miss you!

In 2008 I wanted to make a change that would better myself, my school and the environment. The thought of a "Highland Eco-Team" resonated with me and I just had to jump on the chance to make a difference. Not long after, the dream came to life as everyone sprang into action creating a composting program, running assemblies, gardening and so much more. The Eco-Team was reality but it wasn't just the core group that made a difference, it was the entire school and staff that worked hard to shift into a environmentally aware set of mind. I love being a part of this optimistic and vibrant group. They inspire me to work hard for what I believe in and reassure me everyday that we can save the world. Together we can do anything.

Sam is going to miss the Eco-Team but is happy to have left the EcoTeam in wonderful hands. EcoTeam4Lyfe.
