Well today is June 23rd. We have been super busy lately so the blogs are well...haven't been coming. So far we have 3 composters outside and have moved some 'done' compost to the garden. We have gotten most of the teahers in our school to co-operate with the composting. Thank you so much!! Some broom pulling has also happened, thanks to Tesla and Charlotte and everyone else. The grounds are looking much better!! Well it's exam week and the group wont be meeting until next september I think. I hope that next year people can recruit more and keep us going. There is still so much we can do! Oh, I would like to thank the janitors! You have all been so helpful! Have an awsome summer everyone and keep trying to keep our home healthy! ALSO: Congradulations to Charlotte, who has been nominated as one of Save-On-Foods Amazing Kids! We're proud of you. Sunny Times! 03/22/2010
Today the Eco Team got down and dirty. Sam and Alaina cleaned up the website. While Ben, Haley, Tesla and Brody ventured outside for a spur of the moment broom pulling. A surge of inspiration hit when we noticed that the hillside where broom was pulled last year was covered in fresh grass and tiny flowers that had sprung up in defiance of the invasive broom. On the other side of the school Xela and Alley got started on the garden. Making notes to purchase new plants and bulbs as well as weeding and pruning they started right away at ridding the heap of forgotten compost of plastic. The compost heap when dug apart revealed some fresh and healthy worms and many other bugs. Healthy, Healthy! Today was an amazing day. Avid members of Highland Eco-Team joined Environmental Educator Zac Whyte of Comox-Strathcona Waste Management's Power Of R program to build a new website. The workshop lasted all day. Planning and writing in the morning; editing, designing and publishing in the afternoon. Here's to a great legacy at Highland full of environmental action, sustainable living and perpetual celebration on a healthy planet. | About This Blog
